Why is it my conversations never go anywhere?

i cant seem to keep a conversatin going. for example i will ask someone how they are and they just go fine or ok. they dont even bother having the courtsy to ask me back. any question i ask i responded with a quick answer even though its open ended. i thought i was doing it wrong and observed the more "popular kids" but when i talk the way they do i still get the same responses. is it possible that everyone i talk to isnt intrested in me or am i just boring. for example when i talk to sum1 1 one 1 they put that dull tone where they act all bored or formal n then they turn away to start a conversation with sum1 else but with a more cheery voice n body language. what am i doing wrong here. coz this has been happening to me ever since i was little and its making me socially akward as i dont know how to react to these situations and effect my furture conversation with people i may meet
